The relationship is real gameplay, not just cutscenes. Holding the right trigger makes Jason and Lucia hold hands, and they hold doors for each other. If you ignore your partner's texts while you are out alone, the relationship can suffer.
How close they are can change how parts of the story play out, IGN reports. Even so, they stay partners in crime when the main missions need them to, whether or not they become a couple.
Nothing Rockstar has said so far suggests you can date anyone else: every mention of dates is about Jason and Lucia.
