Frame rate: 30fps, and no 60fps mode announced
Rockstar North's Rob Nelson played GTA 6 for a YouTuber, Davy Jones, who said on his Flow Games podcast that the game ran at 30 frames per second. When Jones asked about performance modes, Nelson said it runs at 30fps for now and that he would need to "consult the technical team" about 60fps at launch or later. Tom's Hardware and Digital Foundry both reported the exchange.
Digital Foundry scanned all 48,242 frames of the Extended Look and found a tighter lock to 30fps than any earlier GTA. Our take: treat 30fps as the launch target and a 60fps mode as unlikely until Rockstar says otherwise, because Digital Foundry's analysis puts the limit on the consoles' CPUs, which the PS5 Pro barely improves.
PS5 and PS5 Pro
Rockstar says its Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, so that video is the best guide to the base console. Digital Foundry measured it at a native 2560x1440 or very close to it, with ray-traced reflections and global illumination.
The PlayStation Store marks GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but neither Rockstar nor PlayStation has said what that means for resolution, effects or frame rate. Digital Foundry notes the Pro's CPU runs at 3.85GHz against the standard PS5's 3.5GHz, which is why it expects sharper graphics on the Pro rather than double the frame rate.
The store also lists DualSense vibration and adaptive trigger support, Remote Play and offline play. If you want a matching pad, PlayStation is selling limited-edition GTA VI DualSense controllers from $84.99 on November 19.
Xbox Series X and Series S
GTA 6 is on Xbox Series X|S, so the cheaper Series S gets it on the same day. The Xbox Store lists two capabilities, "Single player" and "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", and shows no 4K, HDR or frame-rate badge. Rockstar has not shown the Series S version, and Digital Foundry notes it "remains unseen". The Xbox version costs the same as the PS5 version in every country we checked except Mexico; see GTA 6 prices by country.
PC, Switch 2 and older consoles
There is no PC version announced; our PC release date tracker logs every claim. GTA 6 is not on PS4 or Xbox One, and Rockstar has not announced a Switch 2 version.
Questions people ask
Does GTA 6 run at 60fps?
Not as far as anyone has been told. Rockstar's Rob Nelson reportedly said the console versions run at 30fps and that he would need to ask the technical team about 60fps. Rockstar has not announced a 60fps or performance mode.
Is GTA 6 better on PS5 Pro?
The PlayStation Store labels GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced, but Rockstar has not said what the enhancements are. Digital Foundry expects better image quality on PS5 Pro, not 60fps, because the Pro's CPU is only slightly faster.
Can the Xbox Series S run GTA 6?
Yes. GTA 6 is on Xbox Series X|S, which includes the Series S, and the Xbox Store lists it as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not shown the Series S version or said how it differs.
What resolution does GTA 6 run at on PS5?
Rockstar has not said. Digital Foundry's pixel counts put the base PS5 footage in the Extended Look at a native 2560x1440 or very close to it.
Is GTA 6 better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?
Rockstar has not compared them. Both launch on November 19, 2026 at the same price, and only the PS5 version carries an extra label, PS5 Pro Enhanced. Rockstar's own gameplay video was captured on PS5.
Is GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. PlayStation says GTA 6 is only playable on PS5 and is not available for PS4, and Rockstar lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
