The RDR2 connection theory says GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 share a universe, and in its boldest form that Jason is Arthur Morgan's descendant. GTA 6 does contain real Red Dead references, such as RDR2's fictional presidents on banknotes, but Rockstar has never said the two series are connected.
The descendant version gained traction from a February 16, 2026 r/GTA6 post by Jfullr92, who admitted it "may be a little far fetched" but argued that Jason and Arthur look alike. Collider says TikTok videos revived it in the summer. Another r/GTA6 user, DartBoardEater, added the license plate angle in September, per GAMINGbible.
The references themselves are real and come from Rockstar's own material. What they mean is the open question: Rockstar often carries brands from one game to the next (the Duke Arms gun maker is one), so shared presidents or a shared rifle could be a wink rather than lore. Collider's point about Isaac is the strongest argument against Jason being Arthur's direct descendant, unless Rockstar reveals something new.
Evidence for
- Banknotes in GTA 6 promo art show presidents from RDR2's cigarette cards, and both games feature the same gun manufacturer; a Reddit user also argues GTA 6 license plates match Red Dead's fictional states. (GTA 6 'connected universe' theory gains traction as Red Dead Redemption 2 easter eggs continue (GAMINGbible), Sep 28, 2026)
- In the Extended Look, an ad for the Prairie Sandwich uses countryside from Red Dead Redemption 2, and the Duke 556 rifle comes from a manufacturer first seen in Red Dead Online. (99 Details from The GTA 6 Extended Look (IGN), Aug 28, 2026)
Evidence against
- Arthur Morgan's only confirmed child, Isaac, died in RDR2's backstory, which leaves little room for Jason to be his descendant; Collider adds that Rockstar has generally treated the two series as separate.
